Feeding Nevada was started last year by the Martindale family. The third youngest daughter, Sarah needed community service for a college scholarship. She went to her mother for help and then after some frustration the two came up with the idea to help people with food.

The Martindale family decided that they would help their neighbors. Middle class families who had lost the ability to help themselves due to the economy. "That is where we got the title Neighbors Helping Neighbors,"said Sarah.

Eventually Sarah and her family were able to hold a food drive and then a block party. The concept was they would collect food in a needy area and then hold a block party in that depressed area and distribute the food. With that concept in place this organization has held two successful block parties. At the parties they distributed around 47 bags of food to families and numerous family boxes.

"Each bag of food has the potential to feed a small family for 3 to 4 days," said Carolle.

Carolle said the family has over 14 high school and college students helping on a regular basis. The organization is now a non profit organization and is filing for their 501.3c.

Carolle wants to take the organization to the point where it can feed all of Nevada. She envisions hundreds of workers working to be a food bank across the state.
